The therapy "hour" is a 50-minute session, reserved for you each week in person or via secure video or phone call. A super-bill can be provided for insurance reimbursement.
Individual sessions usually last 50 minutes. Couples often require 75 or 90 minutes, and the fee is then prorated accordingly
Unfortunately, I have had to resign from all insurance panels except for Optum, due to their low rates of reimbursement. Therapists have little to no power to negotiate what they are paid by insurance companies, and the rates have not be raised in decades. Therefore, many mental health professionals have had to make the difficult decision to abandon them. I am heartened to hear that Optum is leading the way in offering a more reasonable amount, therefore I have chosen to remain with them.
Payment is expected at the time of service and can be made through your health savings account, cash, check, Venmo or PayPal.
Many people wonder about the cost of therapy, counseling, life coaching, etc. Private practice therapists are self-supporting business owners who have to provide their own medical insurance, vacation pay, sick pay, retirement savings, and disability insurance, on top of paying student loans, office rent, fees for training and professional development, etc. Another issue is that a caseload of 20-25 is the most we can see, and still stay mentally healthy ourselves. An important factor!
Many therapists offer sliding scale fees for those whose income prohibits them from paying the usual fee. If this describes you, and you feel I am a perfect fit for the work you want to do, please ask for a consult. We may be able to negotiate a fee that works for both of us. If not, I will happily provide you with personal referrals. The right therapist at the right fee is important so you can continue as long as you need to for optimal benefit.
